Một hỗn hợp hiđrocacbon nhẹ C1 - C4. Ngoài ra còn có các khí như hơi nước, CO2, N và He. Nếu khí thiên nhiên chứa những lượng đáng kể chất lỏng trong điều kiện ở mặt đất gọi là khí ẩm.
